FAQ

  • Is this safe to use if I'm prone to fungal acne (AKA malassezia folliculitis)?

Skin Barrier Restoring Gel Cream is not considered fungal acne-safe due to its lipid-rich ingredients, which may potentially feed Malassezia yeast (the fungus associated with fungal acne). That said, fungal acne triggers can vary from person to person. You can absolutely patch test it to see how your skin responds—and if you’re prone to fungal acne or looking for a lighter option, our Barrier Balancing Water Cream may be a better fit.

  • Can I layer this with actives?

Skin Barrier Restoring Gel Cream was formulated with hydrating, barrier-supporting ingredients, so it layers well with most actives—including retinoids, vitamin C, AHAs, and BHAs. Its soothing formula can actually help buffer potential irritation, making it a great companion product in your routine. As always, if you’re trying a new combination for the first time, we recommend patch testing or introducing products gradually to see how your skin responds.

  • Is this safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Skin Barrier Restoring Gel Cream has been reviewed and tested for safety on a panel of people who aren’t pregnant or breastfeeding. It does not include any ingredients known to be unsafe while pregnant or breastfeeding, but as with any new product, we recommend checking with your healthcare provider if you're concerned.

Reviews

Honestly very happy with this

"Honestly very happy with this moisturizer! I’m on Tretinoin so my skin barrier is fried and also purging and this has been exactly what my skin needs"

Hope F. (4/5)

This is the best face

"This is the best face cream I have ever used. Great for acne prone skin, and doesnt leave any residue! Super easy for layering with makeup and makes my skin soft and not-greasy."

kacia d. (5/5)

The quality is great but

"The quality is great but my specific skin did not respond well. My skin got immediately flushed and there was a little stinging as well."

Bridget B. (3/5)

Just so good. Please don't discontinue.

"There is nothing on the market with this level of hydration, in a gel cream texture without silicones. This moisturizer is unique and extremely hydrating due to the fermented ingredients. I have tried the new Ceramide Whipped Cream and while it is more emollient, I did not find it very hydrating, and it gave a milia. I've also tried the Balancing Water Cream, but found it lacking in hydration shortly after application. I am 47 and the Skin Barrier Restoring Gel Cream plumps my skin and reduces the look of crepey skin around the eyes and neck (yes, it is indeed THAT hydrating without being heavy or occlusive). I have tried so many moisturizers claiming to be dupes, or even better, and spent sometimes twice as much, but they were not near this good. And all of a sudden, I have become acne prone due to perimenopause and this moisturizer is just perfect to keep my combination/oily, mature skin hydrated without causing breakouts. I will keep reordering this online and really hope it doesn't get discontinued. There is truly nothing like this on the market. I know people claim this isn't "fungal acne safe," but I have had chronic (diagnosed) seborrheic dermatitis, my whole life, and this moisturizer does not flare it. Beautiful product and formula."

Don’t discontinue!

"I’ve been using this product for three years now and it’s the only product that’s hydrating enough for my acne prone, oily, combination skin while still controlling my oil levels. Noticed it was getting phased out at and tried the other gel cream. It just doesn’t hydrate the same. Please don’t discontinue it! Love this stuff!"

Fariya (5/5)

The best

"This is my holy grail. To be honest, I was scared away from moisturizers until my 30s because everything I tried broke me out. I got a sample of this from Sephora and decided to give it a try… Thankfully I did because my face loves it! It gives me just the right amount of moisture and hydration. It doesn’t break me out or cause bumps the way most moisturizers do (my skin is very oily and acne prone). Actually, it’s quite the opposite. Sometimes my skin texture looks bumpy or off, but when I put this moisturizer on, everything settles down. I prefer this to the water cream, as it’s a bit more moisturizing. It goes great under make up without any pilling too. Skinfix - please don’t ever discontinue this! I can’t live without it!"

Jillian (5/5)

My skin starting burning, I

"My skin starting burning, I guess it’s really sensitive"

Nicole D. (5/5)

I’ve been using Skinfix for

"I’ve been using Skinfix for a couple of weeks now and every skin complaint I had (dry, sensitive, oily during the day and congestion in the T-zone) have all massively improved! My skin also looks more youthful in my opinion, because of the hydration. I love the lightweight feel, no sticky or tacky film after application it just blends seamlessly. Looks great with tinted SPF and gives amazing hydration. Awesome stuff!"

Ceanna U. (5/5)

Amazing but Discontinued?

"I love this product! Plus I love that it is cruelty free and environmentally friendly! Why are you discontinuing it? I spent years trying to find a moisturizer that wouldn’t make my sensitive skin/acne prone skin breakout! I convinced several people in my life to also start using this product, such a disappointment that it’s not gonna be available anymore. For so many reasons this product was amazing. I wish it would stay."

Mackenzie (5/5)

Its great but the smell

"Its great but the smell is horrible"

Q&A

Is this packaging/refills system considered to be an “airless pump”? I would like to make sure the product is protected from oxidation and contamination.
Hi Nancy, Yes! We use airless components in our barrier+ Skin Barrier Restoring Gel Cream and the refills support this. In case you need it, we have a video on how to use here: youtube.com/shorts/MLZGDGZPDZU
Does this refill fit in the triple lipid moisturizer container?
Hi Kelly, The barrier+ Triple Lipid Peptide Cream refill 1.7 oz will fit the 1.7oz empty container for our TLPC only- we currently do not have a refill for the 3.3oz jar at this time. In case you need it, we have a little video of a “how-to” on the refill: https://vimeo.com/790452897
How long is the refill supposed to last?
Hi Jen, Thank you for your question. It really is hard to determine "how long" this product will last, as everyone dispenses with different pressure or uses different amounts per day. One to two pumps twice a day. We can let you know that there is 50mL or 1.07oz inside the jar and refill.
In the Skin Barrier Restoring Gel Cream, I see that there's squalene in the ingredients along with Squalane. Squalene is pore clogging and is generally sourced from shark live. Whereas the Squalane is plant derived and is not pore clogging. I am not sure how the product is being marketed as vegan and noncomedogenic that's good for acne prone skin. Except for the use of squalene I find all the other ingredients to be good. Please try to go away from using squalene.
We use a vegan sourced squalene, that is non comedogenic and not sourced from sharks. The squalene in our barrier+ line is derived from olives and it is from the same source across all barrier+ products. We hope this helps!
Is it okay to use the Barrier Restoring Gel Cream after AHA/BHA serums and treatments?
Hi Sara, Yes, the barrier+ Skin Barrier Restoring Gel Cream is a great at moisturizing after using actives such as AHA/BHA's. This non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic gel cream with Niacinamide and our patented* B-L3™ restores the skin's moisture barrier. Ideal for oily skin, this gel cream is proven to visibly refine pores, quickly absorb and minimize oil, providing a refreshing and soothing sensation.
Can I can we use Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream ar night and Skin Barrier Restoring Gel Cream in the morning?
Hi Sarah, Thank you for reaching out. Many do just that. Our barrier+ Skin Barrier Restoring Gel Cream is a perfect lightweight texture and our barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream is deeply hydrating. Both offer barrier repairing properties. It really is a texture preference. We hope this helps!
